A prominent American poet, novelist, and memoirist, a central figure in the Imagist movement of the early 20th century. Born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, she moved to London in 1911, where she became a protégé of Ezra Pound, who famously coined the term "Imagiste" for her work, characterised by its precise, evocative imagery, direct language, and free verse. While initially focused on classical themes and Greek mythology, her later, more expansive poems delved deeply into mythology, psychoanalysis, spirituality, and profounds exploration of gender, sexuality, and personal trauma.
